Shipping and Delivery
How are the meals packed and shipped?
All meals are carefully packed in tightly sealed, weatherproof cooler and are kept frozen with dry ice. The cooler is then shipped via UPS or FED-EX.
How long does delivery take?
Orders will usually ship to arrive within 2-5 business days. Express delivery is available for an additional charge of $29.95 per address.
Do I need to be home to receive the meals?
No. Carrier will leave the cooler for you in our tightly sealed, weatherproof cooler. The meals will be safe and frozen until you get home.
What if my order arrives on time but the dry ice is melted?
If your order arrives on time, but the dry ice has melted, don’t be alarmed. As long as the food is still "refrigerator cold" to the touch, your order can be safely placed in the freezer with no impact on the quality. If you’re not sure, call Customer Service at 830/822-4412.
Where do you ship?
We ship to every address in the continental United States, and Hawaii. Note that we can not ship to PO Boxes or APO/ FPO addresses. Shipping to Alaska and international locations is not available at this time.
About our meals
How are the meals prepared?
All of our meals are fully prepared by our chefs at Gruene Acres Cozy Kitchen, which is located near Historic Gruene Texas. We use only the freshest local ingredients as we prepare each dish. The meals are then vacuum-sealed and immediately frozen using our own proprietary process. The result is a meal with the taste and texture that you’d expect to find only at a fine restaurant.
Can I mix and match side dishes or vegetables?
Absolutely you choose your own selections and we will prepare them for your enjoyment.
How many servings are in each meal?
We design our meals to comfortably serve one adult. Those people with hearty appetites may also enjoy one of our appetizers or soups in addition to their entrée.
Are your photos of the actual food?
Yes! Our food photographers use the same meals that we send to our customers.
How long will the meals keep in my freezer?
Meals will stay fresh in your freezer for up to 1 year.
If I heat a meal and then don't eat it all right away, can I store the leftovers in the refrigerator?
Yes, but not in the vacuum-sealed pouches. Keep your leftover portions in a covered container in the refrigerator as you would with any leftovers.
Can I reheat leftover portions in the microwave?
Yes. To reheat, place the portion in a microwave safe dish and heat on full power for approximately 2-4 minutes, rotating halfway through. Microwaves vary significantly. Heating time is approximate.
Preparation
How do I prepare the meals at home when I receive them?
Most of the meals are prepared in your home by placing the specially designed packaging on your stovetop, oven or in the microwave.
How long will it take me to prepare a Home Bistro meal?
Most of our recipes go from freezer to table in approximately 20 minutes for stovetop and 5 minutes for microwave.
Is there much cleanup afterwards?
Almost all of our recipes simmer in a single pot of water that doesn’t get dirty in the process (our simmer pouches are vacuum-sealed so there’s no mess). In most cases there’s just a plate and a few utensils to clean.
How many meals can I prepare at one time?
Several meals can be prepared at once using our stovetop or oven method, preparation times vary when cooking multiple meals.
Should I add more time if I am preparing meals at a higher altitude?
Yes. Since meal preparation is a little different at higher altitudes, we recommend letting our meals simmer for an additional 6 to 8 minutes.
Nutrition
Are any preservatives used in the meals?
Meals are kept fresh by the combination of freezing and vacuum-sealed packaging. Occasionally we have no choice but to use an ingredient that already includes a preservative, but we never add preservatives.
Where do I find ingredient and nutritional information?
Directly under the product picture on the item detail page. Note that our facility processes foods that include nuts, dairy, seafood, soy, and wheat.
